EXPECTATIONS FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING

Remote learning is a new practice at Latino Youth High School; however, the use of Google Classroom and other online platforms is not. We recognize that there will be challenges but the goal of these expectations is to ensure our students are making academic gains while keeping the daily demands for students, teachers, and families manageable.

The key to ensure success is that everyone remains flexible but committed to our shared academic outcomes.  Our ultimate goal is the same as always – for all of our students to graduate.

FAQ FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS

Q: What about students who do not have internet access at home?

A: Students may qualify for either high-speed internet or a district-provided hotspot at no cost through the Chicago Connected program. Check to see if your family is eligible for a wired internet connection or a district-provided hotspot through Chicago Connected by searching your child’s student ID and date of birth using this link.

Q: Should students expect an assignment every day?

A: Each day the school will provide 2.5 hours of live instruction and 2.5 hours of independent work. This works out to be 40 minutes of live instruction and 40 minutes of independent work per class. The independent work could take the form of daily assignments, multi-day assignments, readings, videos, or other activities.

Q: How do I access live instruction?

A: A unique Google Meet access link will be created by your teachers for each of your classes. This link is available inside each Google Classroom.

Q: How will courses be graded?

A: At the end of the quarter students will be assessed using a traditional grade scale (i.e. A, B, C, and NC). Teachers will provide weekly feedback and enter in grades each Friday.
